In Any Way, Shape or Form

Solo exhibition at the Red Door Gallery (2017)

University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba QLD

In 2017, Karri presented the exhibition In Any Way, Shape or Form, a series of fractal geometric paintings that marked a pivotal moment in her artistic exploration of geometry and space. The exhibition featured vibrant, intricately detailed works installed against expansive wall paintings that encapsulated the gallery in soft pastel tones. This dynamic interplay between the bold foreground and the subtle background created a harmonious tension, inviting viewers to consider geometry not only as a visual language but as a means of transforming physical space. The immersive environment of the gallery highlighted how shapes and forms interact, merge, and contrast, amplifying their impact and evoking a sense of spatial depth. This exhibition was foundational in refining Karri’s approach to integrating mathematical precision and aesthetic fluidity, setting the tone for her ongoing exploration of geometry as a bridge between abstraction and reality.

A Matter of Form

Solo exhibition at the Cam Robertson Gallery (2018)

Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery, Toowoomba QLD

In 2018, Karri’s second solo exhibition A Matter of Form expanded on her exploration of geometry and its relationship with physical space by juxtaposing canvas paintings with a singular wall painting. This approach utilised the gallery environment to create a dialogue between the two mediums, blurring the boundaries between the artwork and the space it inhabited. The wall painting, integrated into the setting, acted as a contextual framework for the standalone canvases. This interplay encouraged viewers to reflect on the fluidity of geometric art - how it can command presence within an environment yet retain its autonomy when detached from it. By allowing the canvas works to exist independently of the wall painting, Karri examined the versatility and adaptability of her geometric compositions. This exhibition served as a meaningful progression in her practice, reinforcing the notion that geometry is not confined to a surface but exists dynamically within spatial realms.

BCA (Honours) Installation

Installation at the Foyer Gallery (2019)

University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba QLD

In 2019 for her undergraduate assessment, Karri took a significant step forward by creating a large-scale wall relief composed of MDF, giving her work a sculptural, three-dimensional quality. Installed atop a wall painting, this new approach marked a major expansion in her artistic practice, encouraging her to push the boundaries of her previous exhibitions. The integration of relief with wall painting allowed for a new interplay of form and space, challenging her to reconsider the relationship between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. By introducing the sculptural element, Karri’s work gained a dynamic presence, adding depth that invited closer engagement. This piece marked a bold departure from her earlier work, signalling a period of growth and exploration, while solidifying her evolving understanding of geometry and space as fluid, interconnected forces.

BCMT Scholarship

Installation at the Maitland Regional Art Gallery (2020)

Maitland, NSW

In 2020, Karri expanded upon her Honours installation for the Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarship at the Maitland Regional Art Gallery, developing a more immersive and expansive experience. The installation featured a larger wall painting, complemented by smaller wall reliefs that blended more seamlessly into the background. This evolution deepened her exploration of the boundaries between the canvas, the reliefs, and the wall itself, sparking her curiosity about dissolving the space between them. The integration of these elements created a more fluid interaction with the gallery environment, encouraging viewers to consider the artwork not as isolated pieces, but as an ongoing conversation with the space they inhabited. Awarded the scholarship for this work, Karri went on to attend an artist residency in Iceland in 2022, where she further refined her practice and deepened her exploration of space, form, and geometry.

Eleven Under Thirty

Installation at the New Artisans Gallery (2021)

Sydney, NSW

In 2021, Karri was shortlisted to create an installation for the New Artisans Gallery in Sydney that further explored the dynamics of space through optical illusions. The piece featured three canvases seamlessly integrated with a perfectly aligned wall painting, blurring the boundaries between the canvas and the wall. This alignment invited playful interaction with the viewer's perception, encouraging engagement from multiple angles. As the viewer moved through the space, the optical illusions shifted, offering new visual experiences and fostering a sense of fluidity between the artwork and its environment. The installation promoted a dynamic, ever-evolving relationship between the viewer, the canvas, and the space, as the artwork seemed to transform depending on perspective. This exploration of visual trickery marked a continued evolution of Karri's interest in challenging conventional ways of perceiving art and space. Ultimately, the installation served as a playful yet thought-provoking investigation into how geometric forms can create a more immersive and interactive experience.
